Pascagoula School District Celebrates 100 Years With a Salute to the Military

Community holds special anniversary event while also honoring with a salute to the military. Families of all shapes and sizes filled the Aaron Jones Family Interactive Center in Pascagoula, Mississippi to celebrate the school district’s 100th anniversary. The special Saturday event also paid tribute to all veterans, current service members, and their families. The celebration included a 24-foot U.S. Coast Guard patrol boat that sat next to a model of the USS Mississippi submarine. Children were allowed to play with all the buttons and send their own messages over the speaker system as well as run the sirens. The main auditorium featured activities designed to teach kids about the military, America, their state flag, and of course, the American flag. American Flag Skydivers Kick Off Festival

Oceanside Harbor Days in California opens with a skydiving spectacle, including a giant American Flag. Oceanside Harbor Days is a truly unique festival, bringing together street fair attractions with the fun and sun of the harbor and beach. The city kicked off the festivities this past Saturday and Sunday with a skydiver jumping with a giant American flag. Over 40,000 people attended the festival over the two days, many of which watched with awe as the American flag skydivers floated graciously to the ground. Leaping from a moving plane thousands of feet in the air is not something high on many people’s agenda, let alone performing that jump alongside a 1,200 square-foot American flag. But nothing intimidates the Tsunami Skydivers in Oceanside and Skydiving Innovations of San Diego, who partnered together to perform the spectacle. They were simply showing their patriotism the best way they knew how. The festival also included a visit from the Coast Guard, who docked in the harbor and opened their ship for tours. The Navy also made a guest appearance with an action-packed landing on the beach Saturday morning. Credit: Camp Pendleton Patch

Military Branch Flags: What do they look like?

There are five branches of the United States military; the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy. While each branch of the military dedicates their time to certain aspects of protection and service, the five military branches work together to some extent in their role of security for the country. Each branch of the military has a separate flag, represented by emblems and insignia specific to the different branches. When displaying military branch flags together, the order of precedence should be the National Colors, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. Flag of the United States – also often called the American Flag, has 13 alternating red and white stripes with a blue rectangle in the upper corner of the flag containing 50 small white stars, representing each of the 50 states. Flag of the United States Army – the United States Army flag shows a blue replica of the official seal of the Department of the Army on a white background, with a red scroll displaying ‘United States Army’ in white letters. Under the red scroll is the year 1775 listed in blue, which was the year the Army was created. Flag of the United … Keep Reading...
